Knowle Gold Medal

Posted by Ryan Coles  |  Posted on 24th August 2017

The 2017 Knowle Gold Medal got underway on a beautifully prepared Course with the morning play being steady rather than spectacular.

Nick Day (Henbury), looking to make it a record five wins in a row was the hot favourite starting out. He carded a one over par 71 in round 1 and this was bettered by playing partners Jake Phillips (Cotswold Hills) with 70 and leader Tom Workman (Players Club) who was the only player to break par with a 69.

With 5 others players lurking on 71, it looked wide open with any of them still in with a great chance of winning going into the afternoon.

The afternoon saw some very heavy rain and whilst a few players quit and returned to the Clubhouse, scoring improved markedly.

James Rowles (Henbury) added a 67 to his morning 73 for a total of 140. This was bettered by Alex Ireland (Brickhampton Court) with 68 for a total of 139.

The last group came in and Workman and Phillips came in in 4th and 5th, with Nick Day returning a best of day 65 for a winning total of 136.

Congratulations to Nick, a 5th Gold Medal in a row.

Our elite junior girls, Ebonie Lewis and Caley McGinty enjoyed an excellent week in the English Girls Championship at Littlestone.

Caley shot an incredible first round 69 (css was 75) and on the way to an 11th place finish, reduced her handicap to scratch for the first time.

Ebonie followed up her 8th place in the English Ladies Championship by finishing strongly in round 3 in the worst of the conditions for a share of 6th place. Ebonie has now reduced her handicap to plus 2. Hopes are high that she will be selected by England for the Girls Home Internationals.

Knowle Club Championship - Dan Sheehan's title

Posted by Ryan Coles  |  Posted on 11th June 2017

Another full field competed for one of the most prestigious and keenly contested Championship's in the region. The strenth in depth of Knowle's elite players was evident after round 1. Leader Sam Sullivan led with a one under par 69, but hot on his heels and all within 3 shots were Leigh Mordy, Dan Sheehan, Will Mullins and veteran, Nick Barwood. Best Net score of the morning came from junior, Jake Harris with an excellent 66 in what were at times, blustery conditions.

In the afternoon round the strength of the wind increased making scoring very difficult. The tightly bunched leaderboard became strung out as one by one the challengers faltered and at times ran up big numbers on a single hole. Dan Sheehan handled the conditions best, returning an excellent 70 for a total of 141 and a 5 shot win over Will Mullins.

Congratulations to Dan.

Knowle Members raise nearly £16,000 for Prostate Cancer UK

Posted by Ryan Coles  |  Posted on 11th April 2017

On Saturday, 2016 Club Captain Chris Heaton handed over a cheque for £15,756.26 for Prostate Cancer UK. The Club carried out a number of fund raising activities during 2016 including golf days, sportsmans dinners and coffee mornings. The amount raised is testament to the generosity of Knowle Golf Club members who really got behind Chris's year as captain and provided great support.

The charity were delighted to receive the cheque and said the funds would be vital to their ongoing work.

Well done everyone.
